U.S. Grants $1.4 Billion for World’s Largest Rooftop Solar Project

At least 773 Megawatts of solar panels will be put on rooftops across America as a result of The DOE’s new $1.4 Billion loan guarantee.  Up to 10,000 jobs will be created in 28 states in what some solar financing experts are calling “a game-changer for distributed solar.”

This massive series of rooftop solar systems, called Project Amp, will take about four years to complete, and occupy about 750 rooftops nationwide.  Bank of America will provide $1.4 Billion for Project Amp, the largest ever project of its kind.  Electricity from these systems will be sold to local utilities.

This announcement is coming the day after the president failed to keep his promise of putting solar panels on the roof of the white house by the end of spring.  However, this announcement will quell any concerns about the administration’s commitment to solar power.  I think it makes up for it.  But please put solar panels on the roof of the White House anyway.
