PVPower - Solar Power Simplified
Published in today’s Chicago Tribune is an article covering the new Exelon Corp Solar plant. This past December, Exelon Corp transformed a former industrial site in West Pullman into the nation largest urban solar plant using 32,000 solar panels. This solar plant on Chicago’s South Side operated by Exelon Corp consists of 40 acres of panels, generates 10 megawatts of power, and gives hope for the Illinois solar industry. The 10 megawatts of clean power generates enough electricity for 1,500 homes while emitting less greenhouse gasses. In the past year, the price of photovoltaic solar panels has dropped by 40%, creating a spark of renewed interest in solar energy. With new legislation and plans to double Illinois solar power supply, Illinois expects to create 5,000 green jobs by 2014 with hopes of becoming the solar energy leader of the Midwest.
