I just checked out Microsoft Hohm, which lets you compare the energy use and efficiency of your home against similar ones in your area. The tool also provides energy savings recommendations for your home and videos on installing energy saving equipment. The utility connection tool, which lets you import your home energy data from your local utility is being set up. In my opinion this is key to provide a meaningful assessment but, of course, our utility (ComEd) in northern Illinois is not participating at this point.

Steffen, really interesting stuff - do you know if utilities are actively adopting the utility connection tool?

I'm pretty sure Google has a similar monitoring platform. It's interesting that media and technology companies are playing this role in the adoption of renewable energy.
