Salt Lake City will have that bragging right as a 2.6MW PV array is being installed on the roof of the Salt Palace Convention Center. The project will cost $10M but won't cost the taxpayers a dime. The system will supply 25% of the Convention Center's energy when it's finished next year.

On Wednesday, Governor Quinn signed into law two pieces of major solar legislation. HB6202 and HB5429 create what’s commonly referred to as a renewable portfolio standard (RPS) in the state of Illinois. RPS legislation has to-date been the most effective form of solar legislation and has been the driving force behind solar adoption in the US. Here is the official press rel

Nice article about the reliability and durability of solar pumps:
By MATT JOYCE , Associated Press
Last update: July 14, 2010 - 7:52 AM
ALCOVA, Wyo. - The pump installer toppled the old windmill in about an hour, first climbing up the wobbly 27-foot tower to stop the broken mill's whirling blade and then pulling the underground pipe to make way for a new solar-powered electric pump.
Iconic mechanical windmills of metal and wood have pumped life into American ranches and farms for 150 years,…

Solar powered plane lands in Switzerland after staying airborne for 26 hours! This is the longest and highest flight of a solar powered plane recorded.
The plane stayed in the air during the night with advanced solar cells and batteries it powered and flying strong.
If they can accomplish this with solar power now, just imagine how much better things can get 20 years from now!

Published in today’s Chicago Tribune is an article covering the new Exelon Corp Solar plant. This past December, Exelon Corp transformed a former industrial site in West Pullman into the nation largest urban solar plant using 32,000 solar panels. This solar plant on Chicago’s South Side operated by Exelon Corp consists of 40 acres of panels, generates 10 megawatts of power, and gives hope for the Illinois solar industry. The 10 megawatts of clean power generates enough elect

I am happy to have just joined the PVPower Community and I appreciate the welcome note I received from Nick.
I am going to Africa to finalize the installation of a surveillance and security network for a 3-story office building. The central electricity service station is unreliable therefore solar power is being considered to run the cameras and DVRs when the power is turned off at night or the grid goes offline during the day (often). I was happy to locate your community and could use…

With HB 3909 homeowners in Oregon will be able to start selling their solar power back to PGE Power starting in July at quite a nice rate. According to an informative and entertaining article over at
Solar Power Rocks homeowners should be able to finance a 5kW system, save about $60 per month on their electricity bills and have PGE pay them $300 per month for their energy production. That's right, $300 per month. And after a loan payment of approximately $25…

I just checked out Microsoft Hohm, which lets you compare the energy use and efficiency of your home against similar ones in your area. The tool also provides energy savings recommendations for your home and videos on installing energy saving equipment. The utility connection tool, which lets you import your home energy data from your local utility is being set up. In my opinion this is key to provide a meaningful assessment but, of course, our utility (ComEd) in northern Illinois is not partici…

SEPA (Solar Electric Power Association) has released its annual Top Ten Utility Solar Ranking, one of it's most important studies of the year. The top utilities have expanded solar integration by 66% over the last year, growing from 169MW to 279MW solar megawatts added to the grid. The study gives credit to both the largest overall solar megawatts, and solar watts per customer to give smaller utilities a chance to compete.

One of our new favorite incentives for clean energy here at PVPower is the Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) bond. The innovative new way to finance distributed generation projects is likely going to transform the way we think about clean energy retrofits. So what is a PACE bond and how does it work?
Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) legislation allows local governments to finance energy efficient retrofits to existing homes and commercial properties by leveraging property taxes…
